It’s hard to believe, but the Avalon Hotel – along with the Bongo Room -- have been gone 20 years now. It was a warm summer morning in August 1987 when the demolition vehicles from Albrecht and Heun arrived at 8th Street and First Avenue. The Avalon Hotel was like an old friend – an Avalon landmark for nearly 100 years.
